Two south-facing beaches and crystal clear waters between the islands.

Colom Island

The ‘Illa de’n Colom’ is the largest island off the coast of Menorca, located only 9.5 nautical miles away, you will reach this paradise after approximately half an hour of sailing at a speed of 20 knots.

Colom is almost 59 hectares in size and forms part of the protected natural area known as ‘L’Albufera de’s Grau’. Its history dates back to the 18th century, when it was used as an old hospital, as a lazaretto, and other lands were used for cultivation.

This unique Menorcan island has two beaches, S’Arenal de’n Moro and Es Tamarells. Both are characterised by their virginity, coarse golden sand, typical of the north coast of Menorca, and crystal-clear turquoise water. The Arenal de’n Moro beach is located further to the north of the island, is the most frequented and stands out for the cliff that rises above it and protects it from the strong north winds. On the other hand, it is Tamarells, whose virginity is altered by a small fishermen’s hut that was formerly used to leave boats, and which was used by the owner’s family until a couple of years ago.

The island itself is unique, and is ideal for a quiet day out on the boat with the family. Also, for snorkellers, the seabed is a paradise. However, be careful as there is no lifeguard service.

For those who arrive by boat, they must anchor in the permitted bay and make sure their anchor does not affect the seaweed. If their anchor damages the seabed, a security guard from the coast will approach their boat to warn them. There are also buoys, but book in advance, otherwise, they must anchor far from the coves, only where the bottom is sandy.

Bear in mind that only 200 metres separate the island from the coast of Menorca, so if you want to do tourism in Colom, you have several options, from renting a kayak in “Es Grau” to a scooter or taking the taxi that makes the transfers. For adventure lovers, getting on a kayak is one of the most daring and fun options.

For those who love gastronomy, the island is located in El Grau, an old fishing village where you will find several restaurants where you can enjoy typical Menorcan and Mediterranean cuisine, from fresh fish to salads and meats.
